Upcoming Assignments

A Reminder:

For next class, Mar. 13/14, read pp. 132- 136 inclusive.

  •  Do a close reading wherein you look at the house, its rooms and contents as you might a poem.
  •    Are there examples of metaphors/symbols/objective correlatives at work? What they might be telling us?
  •    What can you tell about the lives of the people based on this passage?
  •     How does it relate to SA history?
  •   Be concise (2 page max.)
I will take a look at these in class; we will share them and discuss at large. The idea is that we are exploring a way of working/looking/analyzing that you will employ on your next in-class write.

The in-class essay will take place on April 2/14 and will look at some aspect of the landscape in the novel. The passage will be taken from within the first 10/11 chapters. The idea is to reap the symbolic significance in the details Courtenay provides.
