October 24th In Class essay information and encouragement

Hello 12s,

Firstly, thank you all for the efforts you have been making in both your written work and in your discourse within the class. I see growth already and feel engaged by the things you are sharing.

As you know, you will come to class next day Monday Oct. 24 to write your uniquely constructed essay. Please note:
  • You are writing on a topic of your own interest/expertise/choosing ENJOY!
  • Remember, please, that your reader may not know all you know; define your terms.
  • Bring an outline (minimal text/just 'sign posts' to help guide you)
  • On the top of the essay you must list:
    • Purpose:
    • Audience: (specific)
    • 2 or more forms/novel methods you intend to use as per handouts/essays we've read/in-class notes/discussion.
The essay will be marked according to the above and based on the Synthesis rubric found on the provincial exam website. The closest I can get you is this Rubric link scroll down please.
  • Below is a short list of some element you may choose to employ:
'novel methods' we have been reviewing:

Forms:  expository, comparison, argument, persuasion or ,narrative, descriptive

Rhetorical devices:  Analogy, jargon, aside, editorial, rhetorical question, appeal to authority

Literary devices: metaphor, simile, irony, imagery(single or sustained)

Levels of diction:  See hand out. Ensure you use academic diction for part of it even if you employ another level too.

Please try to have fun with it; I can hardly wait to find out what you are going to teach me!
