'Chicken Hips' and other "Bones"

Today we discussed various forms of essays. I invite you to consider the 'skeleton' of each essay you read/write. How is it constructed/organized? How does this form achieve the aims of the essay?

• Read the handouts (3) regarding structuring essays, and introductions and conclusions.

We read 'Chicken Hips' by Catherine Pigott. Please answer the following questions using 'Wizzbang' and integrating quotations as your support. Due : Sept. 23/13

1. 'Chicken Hips' is mainly an essay comparing ideals of beauty in Gambia and Canada. Point out two additional things is compares. 
2. What classic technique of organization does Pigott exploit in her opening and closing? (feel free to use your own words for it).
3. Where do sense images most strongly help us "see" the author's point? Provide quotes for two examples.
4. Look at her vocabulary. Who, specifically, do you think is her intended audience and why?
